photo stories - the impossible project

I love polaroids, often as inspiration for stories, or inspiration
in general.  Maybe it's the mood they so effortlessly evoke.. the
blur and contrast or lack thereof.  These are from the "Outside
the Lines" Impossible Project exhibit.  Enjoy.

on reading - robertson davies

A truly great book should be read in youth, again in maturity and
once more in old age, as a fine building should be seen by morning
light, at noon and by moonlight.

the well written - john updike

The clangor of the body shop comes up softly. It's noise comforts
him, tells him he is hidden and safe, that while he hides men are
busy nailing the world down, and toward the disembodied sounds
his heart makes in darkness a motion of love.

from unexpected places - alex jochim

If you're looking for a story trigger exercise not based on starter
lines or single images, use these photo collages by Alex Jochim,
which could be twisted and turned to conform to any genre.

What do a palm tree, a raccoon, a man dancing by himself at
night, and a crowd of spectators have to do with one another?

on writing - a.s. byatt

All old stories, my cousin, will bear telling and telling again in
different ways. What is required is to keep alive, to polish, the
simple clean forms of the tale which must be there - in this case the
angry Ocean, the terrible leap of the horse, the fall of Dahud from
the crupper, the engulfment etc etc. And yet to add something of
yours, of the writer, which makes all these things seem new and
first seen, without having been appropriated for private or personal
ends.   - A.S. Byatt, Possession

When I see Jennifer's work, I'm reminded of the art often
accompanying short fiction on tor.com.  These could easily be
paired with some serious fantasy and SF stories with striking
female protagonists or villains.  Her work certainly inspires
me to write those kind of stories...

a dreamer's wisdom - oscar wilde

An idea that is not dangerous is unworthy of being called an idea
